A person who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual offenses against two children both nine and 10.

The accused was arrested after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.

However, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was kept in jail ahead of a further hearing on 28 November.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the court.

She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he operated.

The defendant played a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She told the court the defendant had played this game with the children "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She explained the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about what was going on, justifiably.

"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel said materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She explained the defendant went on to play the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that time," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The prosecutor said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the family member called the authorities once more.

She stated the man then played the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
