US Armed Forces Executes Deadly Strike in Pacific, Resulting in 4 Deaths
As stated by a senior military spokesperson, the American military executed a lethal kinetic engagement on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.
“A US joint task force carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a craft linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Surveillance verified the vessel was traveling along a known narco-trafficking route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were killed, and no US military forces were injured.”
Background and Recent Strikes
The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on social media, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, vowing to increase the military presence.
Just on the previous day, US defense officials said it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Justifies Actions Amidst Scrutiny
The administration has encountered increasing demands to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have refused to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a successful operation, arguing it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of legal military action.
Although the administration has stated the campaign is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a top official seemed to confirm a broader geopolitical aim. In a recent interview, the senior advisor remarked the leader “wants to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”
This indicates the series of strikes may be part of a push to oust Venezuela's current government.
